From capability to presence

Context

A newly promoted Director was stepping into a broader, more visible leadership role. Operationally strong and well‑respected, the shift required greater presence, stronger communication and a clearer sense of how to operate at the right level within the organisation.

The Work

Through a series of one‑to‑one coaching sessions, we focused on three core areas: dialogue, development planning and how he shows up as a leader.

The work was practical and grounded. We explored real situations such as meetings, conversations or decision points, and used these as a testing ground for new approaches. The focus wasn’t on changing personality or style, but on expanding range: helping him see where and how he could step forward, hold space and contribute with confidence.

A key strand was experimenting with expression. When to speak. How much to say. How to balance clarity with brevity. How to contribute in a way that felt both authentic and appropriate for the level he was now operating at.

Alongside this, we built a simple, forward‑looking development plan, clear enough to guide focus and maintain momentum.

How We Worked

The coaching was conversational, reflective and anchored in real work. We created space to pause, think and test different ways of working, and then brought it straight back into practice. Each session built on the last, with small, deliberate shifts rather than large theoretical leaps.

Emerging Impact

Over time, the shift is becoming visible. He is becoming more deliberate in how he contributes, more confident in when to step in and more comfortable holding his position in senior conversations. Importantly, this wasn’t about becoming someone else, rather, it was about showing up more fully as himself, at the level the role required.

Why This Works

Good coaching creates awareness, builds choice and supports people to find their own way of leading. This work did exactly that: helping a capable individual step into a bigger role with clarity, confidence and authenticity.
